Welcome to the Imagine Network
Cal Poly's Internet Connection

What you need to connect to Cal Poly's Imagine Internet Service:

  • A Cal Poly Central Unix Account: Please visit the Help Desk site or call the Help Desk at 756-7000, or follow the instructions on the front cover of the Imagine Connectivity Kit (see below).
  • A Personal Computer: If you wish to install from the Imagine CD, you will need a CD-ROM drive. Windows 2K/XP and Macintosh OS 9/X are currently the only OS' supported by Imagine.
  • An external or internal modem installed in your computer and connected to a phone line: If you wish to have a 56K connection, you must have a V.90-compatible 56K modem*.
  • The Imagine Connectivity Kit: The CD provides all the software needed to connect you to the Internet quickly and easily. For more information on the Connectivity Kit, see below.

* 56K Modems can receive data at speeds of up to 56Kbps; however, due to FCC (Federal Communications Commission) rulings on maximum permissible transmit power levels during download transmissions, speeds of 54Kbps are the maximum. Actual data speeds received will vary depending on line conditions.
